When you bring a furry friend into your home, you’re making a lifetime commitment to care for and love that pet. It means being financially responsible and having a stable lifestyle.

Volunteers Who Match Pets with Loving Homes

Located in Perry County, OH,  PAWS – Perry Animal Welfare Society is a 501(c)3 that was established in 2018. Our mission is to re-home dogs and cats with loving and committed families.

We do not own or operate a shelter. We have an incredible team of volunteers and foster families who temporarily care for the pets we rescue.

We thoroughly review applications from those who apply to foster or adopt our dogs or cats. We do our best to ensure that the family or individual is committed to the pet’s care for its entire life.

We strive to make sure the pet is the best fit for the family or individual, and likewise.

Pets in Need

This post is not intended to shame, but provide education of the importance of using monthly prevention for flea, ticks and heartworm disease. The owner has given us permission to share this photo. The owner stated there was one tiny hot spot when she went to bed and then woke up to this. Can you imagine the misery of this dog? The owner stated she had never seen a flea on her dog, but a double coated dog like a golden retriever makes a wonderful hiding place for fleas and ticks. Any dog or cat that goes outside for any length of time, even to just potty, needs to be on monthly prevention. This is why we make it a requirement for anyone wanting to adopt a PAWS animal, prevention is an absolute must. All flea and tick prevention is not created equal. Over the counter products do not tend to be as effective as prescription prevention. We recommend seeing your veterinarian for the preventative’s that will work best for your dog and your lifestyle. What could’ve been easily treated with monthly prevention, ended up being an expensive trip to the emergency vet. Preventatives are an important part of owning a pet along with vaccinations and spay-neutering. Please do your part to protect your pet. ... See MoreSee Less

Why hasn’t Bess been adopted yet? We think we know the answer. Bess is “just” a brown dog.No fancy breed. No pedigree. No designer mix that has people lining up for applications. She’s simply Bess, a lovable, goofy, resilient mutt with a heart of gold. Actually DNA testing on her puppies showed some poodle ancestry. Maybe we should call her a Mutt-a-Doodle. Would that help? The truth is Bess is one of a kind. Unique. Not another like her. While she may look like an old soul she is very much a puppy herself. Last winter, this brave girl gave birth to her puppies and then was promptly thrown outside with them. They had nothing but a mere cardboard box for shelter. On a cold, snowy, New Year’s Eve Bess and her puppies were rescued by a community that came together to save them. The puppies have long been adopted but Bess still waits. Bess is an energetic pup who would love an active family that walks, hikes, and would throw a ball for her to fetch. She is also incredibly smart and well mannered. She is:-housebroken-can be left uncrated - knows sit and is learning leave it-lets you know when she needs to go potty-great with children-good with other dogs but does have a rough play style-loves to snuggle up to her favorite person, especially at bedtime Bess is also delightfully expressive and lets you know when it’s time for dinner, playtime or bedtime. She’s survived neglect, raised puppies, watched them all find homes. Now it’s her turn for a happy ending. Could that be you?To apply click the link in the comments below. Other pets in your home must be vaccinated, spay/neutered, and on prevention for fleas, ticks, and heartworm disease. Those that provide regular veterinary care and wellness exams need only to apply. Please share , this girl is way past time for a home of her own! ... See MoreSee Less

Rescues are all very different. They all have different criteria and adoption fees. Some only utilize fosters, others have a shelter. We implore you to not fall for the cute pictures you see on Facebook but do your homework, ask questions and really understand what the adoption fee includes.Charging an adoption fee for a cat that has not had a vet exam, that has no plan in place for spay/neuter, vaccines, or has not been feline tested for diseases that are ultimately fatal and highly contagious, is not rescue. It’s contributing to the problem. Our adoption fee is $50 and includes feline testing, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and flea tick prevention. Yes, we lose a tremendous amount of money on every cat we take in our care, that’s why we fundraise like crazy and sometimes beg for donations. We want everyone to adopt, not shop, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do your due diligence and ask the important questions when you do. Below are the Meows available this Monday. If you’d like to add one to your family apply using the link in the comments below. ... See MoreSee Less
