Volunteers Who Match Pets with Loving Homes

Located in Perry County, OH,  PAWS – Perry Animal Welfare Society is a 501(c)3 that was established in 2018. Our mission is to re-home dogs and cats with loving and committed families.

We do not own or operate a shelter. We have an incredible team of volunteers and foster families who temporarily care for the pets we rescue.

We thoroughly review applications from those who apply to foster or adopt our dogs or cats. We do our best to ensure that the family or individual is committed to the pet’s care for its entire life.

We strive to make sure the pet is the best fit for the family or individual, and likewise.

Remember Mama Bess? The wonderful mama who protected her babies from the bitter cold and snow. A cardboard box was their only shelter. This girl is a mere baby herself getting pregnant her first heat. She has been an incredible mother, but now it’s time for her to receive all the love and attention. Bess is a mixed breed. The only thing we can ascertain is there is some hound in there with the way she likes to work her nose and her small prey drive for rabbits and birds. She’s a medium sized dog perfect for couch cuddling. She loves to be petted and loved on. Since Bess is still young herself she needs someone to help her burn that puppy energy. She would not be recommended for a sedentary household. Loves to play tug w toys and loves to chase and return a ball. She is very athletic. Fast runner, leaps w grace, very light on her feet. Would probably excel at an agility course. She is smart and trains easily. Food motivatedShe is a girl that wants to be near you, but not velcro dog. Sleeps very politely on the bed snuggled up behind your knees. She will entertain herself with toys. Especially new toys, but she also wants your attention and some play time, but not constantly. She was a little skittish at first, but maybe because she was smart enough to recognize there was a lot of change happening all at once. She is very friendly with guests who enter her foster homeWe think she would enjoy playing and wrestling with another dog, seems to have that playful personality but has not been fostered with other dogs beside her pups. A proper meet and greet would be needed.Bess has very short hair, very little shedding. She is a sweet girl w a very sunshiney personality. Bess is housebroken and will “alert” you when she needs to go out. She has been gated in a room when the foster needs to leave with no issues. We know Bess isn’t a flashy girl with a known pedigree. Shes an average looking brown dog that has an incredible warm heart and delightful personality. Her one downfall is she’s a jumper, but we are working on that. Bess has been completely vetted and can go anywhere. If you have other dogs a solid veterinary history is a MUST. Your dogs must be current on vaccines, on regular prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm disease. They must be spay/neutered with a history of regular wellness exams. Bess did not have this and we won’t sign her up for more of the same poor care. To apply click the link in the comments below, and please, please share! ... See MoreSee Less

Remember Angel & Sadie — a bonded mother-daughter duo with so much love still to give?Angel and Sadie remain in a loving foster home, still patiently waiting for a family of their own. These Pomeranian mixes lost everything when their owner lost her home and living in a tent—but their spirits have never dimmed. After their initial vet visit, we learned they both have medical needs that would require major surgeries and difficult recoveries. Instead, the choice was made to focus on comfort, quality of life, and keeping them happy—and that is exactly what they are.Angel (12 yrs)This sweet mama has multiple mammary masses and an inguinal hernia. Rather than putting her through several invasive surgeries, she’s on a pain-management plan and soaking up every bit of love and comfort.Sadie (9 yrs)Sadie has hip issues that would also require a tough surgical route. She’s being medically managed and doing well. Missing some teeth hasn’t slowed her down one bit—especially at mealtime! Here’s the most important part:These girls are happy. They are not at the end just yet—They are enjoying life, loving their people, and still have so much left to give. Our goal is not to extend their life through painful procedures, but to ensure the time they have is filled with comfort, dignity, and love. They enjoy snuggling (Angel loves laps, Sadie prefers her own cozy chair), walk nicely on a leash. Most importantly—they have each other, and they need to stay together. What they need:A calm, quiet home where they can relax and be loved—no infants or toddlers. Just a peaceful space and a kind heart. We are looking for a hospice/palliative adopter who understands that sometimes the greatest gift is simply providing a safe, loving home for the rest of their days—however long that may be and continue to provide medication management. They’ve been waiting. Still hoping. Still so deserving. If you feel that pull in your heart for Angel & Sadie, please fill out an application listed in the comments below. ... See MoreSee Less

These babies and mama will be ready for foster to adopt homes on April 17th. What does foster to adopt mean? It means that while your puppy (or mom) finishes their veterinary care, they can live with you and start bonding with your family. This way we can ensure the necessary vetting happens. You need to live within a reasonable distance from at least one of our two vet clinics (Logan or Somerset, Oh). We pay for all vaccines, flea/tick/heartworm, and spay/neuter. Once the spay/neuter is complete, we will finalize the adoption and you can transfer to the veterinarian of your choice. If you have other pets in your home you must have they MUST be current on vaccines, be on regular preventatives for flea, tick, and heartworm disease. Additionally, they must be spay/neutered with a history of regular veterinary care. Help us find the perfect homes for these babies, please, please share! So. Much. Fun. Thank you to our PAWS family who showed up and donated so generously. It was a night to remember. So many laughs, so many wonderful people coming together for the animals in our community.Last year our veterinary expenses exceeded $75,000. This didn’t include food, collars, leashes, formula, bottles, pee pads….you get the idea. We absolutely can’t do this without you. As a 100% volunteer organization every dime is used for the betterment of the animals in our care. Thank you for helping us, to help them ♥️ We still have much work to do. We have more fundraisers to plan, we need more fosters, we need volunteers. If you are interested in becoming more involved, helping to be part of the solution. Send us a message, we’d love to have you. If you have pictures to share of Spring for PAWS please drop them in the comments below! Till next year!! ... See MoreSee Less
